Students show great zeal as the Official G20 Youth Engagement Group Organizes Chaupal at JNU

Y20, the official engagement group of G20 hosted its first Y20 India “चौपाल” on the 12th of January, 2023 at Jawaharlal Nehru University. The event was organised at the famous Godavari Dhaba (Nilgiri Dhaba). During the event, the representatives of Y20 India had a close-knit interaction with the students of the varsity.

Keeping in view the demographic dividend of India this initiative is a unique and powerful way to reach the youth at the grass-root level in India. This Chaupal engages youth in various discussions on different themes of Y20. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Foundation has taken up the responsibility of the Y20 Secretariat for this year’s G20 presidency During this discussion, Ms Drishti Rawal, Secretary of Policy & Research introduced G20 and Y20 to the students and presented the concept of Youth चौपाल. Ms Arya Jha, Secretary Communications was also present and mentioned the different themes of Y20 – Future of Work: Industries 4.0, Innovation & 21st Century Skills, Climate change and Disaster Risk Reduction: Making Sustainability a way of life, Shared Future: Youth in democracy and Governance, Peacebuilding and Reconciliation: Ushering in an Era of No War and Health, Wellbeing & Sports: Agenda for Youth and Ms Velentina Brahma, Secretary, Media of the Y20 Secretariat also presented views about India as a Global leader and role of youth in the holistic development of the nation.  Youth must think about the issues that will determine the future such as digital transformation, new technology, the health sector, energy transition, etc.

Students present at the event posed questions to the Y20 representatives and also put forth their points of view about the challenges the G20 nations face and how youth could play a critical role in solving them.

It is worth mentioning that Y20 India’s key focus is to bring young leaders from all across the globe together and discuss ideas for a better tomorrow and draft an agenda for action.
