ABVP’s JNU unit held a protest demonstration in front of the Dean’s Office on Tuesday, May 17, at 1 pm for the allotment of hostels. Document verification for newly admitted students has started from May 17 i.e. today. The dean had last week assured that the students would be given a hostel immediately. However, suddenly turned away.
More than 100 students took part in the demonstration.
ABVP JNU Unit President Rohit Kumar said that “This insensitive attitude of the university administration is very sad and against the interests of the students. Earlier, the process of allocating hostels went hand in hand with the document verification process. Now suddenly the rules are being changed without informing the students’ community. JNU is the top university in the country. Students from Kerala, Northeast and other remote states come here to study. Where will they make arrangements to stay now in such little time and this heatwave? For these reasons, we protested today. Due to our protest, the Dean’s office released a notice detailing 23rd May as the date of commencement of hostel allotment. We welcome the notice.”
ABVP JNU Unit Secretary Umesh Chandra Ajmeera said that “Students are very angry with this insensitive decision of the university administration. We demand that the Dean should provide temporary arrangements for those students who come from remote areas.”
