“Umar Pachpan Dil Bachpan” – How youth engages in community development and joy giving

Under the aegis of Mr. Jitender Bhardwaj, In-charge of Shiv Ashray Senior Citizen home, and Mr. Sahil Koul, an esteemed faculty member of Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (VIPS) “Young Wrinkles” successfully organized a visit and interaction program named ‘Umar Pachpan, Dil Bachpan’ at Shiv Ashray Senior Citizen Home, Rohini on March 24, 2019. This was a pioneering event designed for senior citizens, pre-retires and the “caregiver” generation that is looking lifestyle solutions for its parents and others. The purpose of this interaction program was to bring out the hidden child in senior citizens which might have been buried under the mental as well as physical cobwebs that grow with age.

Mr. Somnath Duggal, retired DIG, Haryana Police, was the Chief Guest who visited the old age home along with other guests namely, Mr. Harish Arora and Mrs. Usha Arora. A total of 35 senior citizens along with the members of old age home and event coordinators were present in the joyful event. The event commenced with a warm welcome of all the beloved guests by Mr. Harish Arora and Mrs. Usha Arora.

Firstly, a yoga session was conducted by Mr. Harish in which he emphasized the importance of yoga and meditation. He also demonstrated all the relevant yoga and meditation techniques to everyone. This was followed by an amazing music session by a student band from VIPS. They performed various soothing songs from the old era which provided much needed relaxation to the gathering present at the event. Moreover, the music session was followed by an unplanned dance session in which many old people participated. This came out to be an utter source of enjoyment for all the senior citizens.

This day-long event came to an end where all the guests of honor expressed their gratitude & conveyed their valuable words of appreciation for the event coordinators and volunteers. In the end, a vote of thanks was given to the event sponsors: Rotaract Club of Delhi and Akash and Harman Creations. The event finally concluded with loads of warmth and showers of blessings extended from the elderly. The Young Wrinkles is an initiative by a young entrepreneur Mainank Arora who planned and managed the whole event.
